"I'm ready for a forever home (since it appears my foster brother Oskar won't be leaving anytime soon)"
Maddie would love nothing more than to find someone who can be her one and only lifetime companion. She looks forward to taking long walks and although she enjoys going on runs with her foster Dad, she is just as content laying by his feet while he works. Yes, Maddie is a "daddy's girl" and although her foster dad thinks "she's the most beautiful dog in the world", Maddie's beauty is more than just skin deep.
She is extremely smart, eager to please, and wants to be a good girl so training has been really fun and exciting for her and her foster parents. She has finished a six week basic obedience training and knows the commands "sit", "down", "stay" commands. She is learning to "heel" (which is easy to do when there are not distractions around like lizards and cats to chase).
Maddie needs a strong, confident, experienced handler who is willing to set boundaries and enforce them, who is willing to be committed to her on-going training. And if someone wanted to continue with higher level training Maddie could do well in Obedience, Tracking, Rally or nose work competition. "Tracking is a technique in which dogs are trained to located things while inuse by humans. They use the object's scent, for a variety of purposes. K9 Nose Work is a fairly new recreational activity dog owners can enjoy with teir canine companions. It evolved from the training professional scent detection dogs receive. Fun nose work encourages your dog's natural drive to hunt, coupled with her special talent for picking up scents and finding their source."
Although Maddie has a wonderful alarm bark and her barks can be quite intimidating, she is a lover at heart. She really does love the company of people is extremely comfortable with everyone she meets, young or old. Maddie even knows some really cool tricks, such as "shake" and "roll over", which she uses a lot to get some well-loved tummy rubs so don't be surprised when meeting her for the first time, she gives you her paw and rolls over.
In addition to everything she has learned, Maddie has also learned that a crate is a good thing and she appears to be housebroken.
The one thing Maddie has not learned is how to share her attention or affection with any other animals so she would do best in a home with no other dogs or cats.
